More progress to report. Lucy has pretty well mastered “sit”, “stay”, and “come”. We are working on “drop it”, which will be invaluable since we didn’t have to even attempt “fetch” or “get it”. I think she was born with knowing those cold! Lucy has pretty well learned to go into the front yard to get the paper on command, and she will race back into the kitchen and drop it and wait for her treat. She is extremely food motivated, and she will literally do back flips if you had a food bowl in hand.

We just feel like we are lucky that you were willing to sell this pup. She is flawless in her house training, modest about where she poops (she likes to go in the bushes), and she is like a sponge and eager to learn. Lucy is funny, goofy, smart, attentive, curious, and just an all around joy. Oh yes, did I mention that she absolutely loves to shred paper? We could hire her out to be a document destruction company!

Sometimes I think your last name should be Mellow instead of Mellor. Mellow is just what we got with Lucy. We are so delighted with this pup! She is curious and funny and playful…all of the things that you would expect from a healthy puppy, but her defining characteristic is sweetness. Lucy is like a little sponge with her training and seems to enjoy learning. I think that she enjoys anything as long as we are doing it together. I hope that the rest of the litter landed in good homes.

If you need another reference of this litter, I will be happy to vouch for our puppy our experience in general. Many thanks.

Randall Lamb

Kimberly,

I haven’t had a chance to thank you personally for your generosity in donating the black lab puppy to the Christian Outdoor Fellowship banquet last fall. I was the fortunate recipient of the puppy. We named him Titus. Below is a photo and brief summary of his AKC Junior Hunter title Achievement. It has been an absolute pleasure for me to become a part of the retriever training and hunt test competition culture. The write-up and photo below will appear soon on the COF website.

Ryan, my 19 year old son recently commented to my wife that Titus is the perfect dog for us, and that we could not have found a better dog for our family. Sometimes I think Rachael, my 21 yr old daughter, comes home from Texas A&M to see him more than us! A month ago we had to put down our Golden Retriever just short of her 14th birthday. Titus has certainly helped fill that void and transition to a new hunting companion and family pet.

I have hopes that Titus will follow Forest Shadows Steppin’ Texan to the MH title level. I certainly believe he has it in him. Again, thanks for your generous donation. I hope to bring him by Forest Shadows some day for a visit. When talking about Titus, I love to tell about Forest Shadows Pet Resort and the great story of how Titus came to be part of the family.

Article from Magazine:

Titus completed the requirements for
AKC Junior Hunter at the Brazosport Retriever Club Licensed Hunt Test on March 11th in Montgomery, TX. He was 9.5 months old. Titus was donated by Forest Shadows Kennels in Magnolia and breeder Kimberly Mellor as a way to raise funds at the COF Banquet last October. Titus was chosen from a litter by Hank Hough, Kingdom Dog Ministries and completed basic obedience training at Forest Shadows prior to the COF banquet. Mickey O’Callaghan won Titus at the banquet and has continued his training and development with Steve Hendricks Kennels in Katy.

So what’s next? The next goal is Senior Hunter qualification before the start of hunting season fall 2007.

Titus AKC registered name is “Sienna Woods Texas Titus JH”.

Thank you,

Mickey O’Callaghan
